About Clifton High School

Clifton High School was founded in 1877 as a girls' day school in the affluent Clifton district of Bristol — immediately adjacent to the Clifton Suspension Bridge (Brunel's iconic 1864 bridge across the Avon Gorge) and the Clifton Downs. The school became fully co-educational in 2014 in the Senior School (girls-only had been the format for most of its history) and today educates around 784 pupils ages 3-18. The Head is Anna Neubert-Wood. The school is a member of the GSA and is inspected by the ISI. The school's academic profile is mid-to-top tier West Country independent, with strong A-Level results and a strong Russell Group pipeline. The school operates a substantial bursary programme intended to provide educational access for Bristol families regardless of family means.
